My Dead Bones Live This week I witnessed an army of dry bones live. Youth, staff and church leadership from several churches, cities, states and denominations came together in one mind, one heart, one spirit and one voice to proclaim Christ is Lord over our lives, our families and our communities. I never imagined that I would see such hunger,...

Where the Spirit of the Lord is As I seek clarity for the final service of this camp, I am reflecting on all God has done this week in the lives of these campers and staff. Last night we were in service for 6 hours. That's right 6 hours. The Spirit of the Lord moved on the place and we witnessed God heal family relationships, deliver youth and adults...

Not of this World This is day 3 of camp, and I am filled with excitement and expectancy. The last 2 nights were amazing and God met the students here. Sunday night, I spoke on breathing the promises and calls of past camps and encounters with the Lord. Then the team ministered to every youth and adult who believed they are called into ministry....

Back at Camp I arrived here in Missouri and immediately was filled with excitement, not just at the privilege to be here and reconnect with good friends, but at what I believe God is going to do this week. It been a few years since I was at youth camp, so I came up a day early to acclimate and work through any anxieties before the week...

The drought is over - July 2010 Update We may never understand all God's ways, purposes and dealings with us in this life; however, we will definitely see, feel and taste the results of His hand. The key is what posture will we take when Father is leading us through the valley or desert, in times of famine or drought? Will we react, most likely, or will we respond,...

The call confirmed

Category : Africa, Missions

Many of you are aware that I had the great privilege and honor to return to Kenya. This was my second trip and very much long over due. For many years, my heart has been yearning for missions, particularly Africa. I had hoped to post updates to this site during my journey. In spite of my failed efforts, I was able to post to my twitter and facebook profiles.

The purpose of this journey was primarily to confirm my call, rekindle former and build new relationships, and be sensitive to the Lord’s will in my life as it pertains to Kenya. Little did I realize this call was not only confirmed for Kenya, but it was expanded to include all of East Africa. Doors have immediately opened to enter into Tanzania and Uganda. I was blown away by the genuine heart, passion and vision for the Kingdom of God in East Africa. Our host were gracious, honorable and transparent.

IMG00040-20091203-1219Although I went focusing more on what God wanted to reveal to me, I was honored to teach and speak at churches in Nairobi and Kabenes. In addition to the conference sessions, I spoke nightly at an open air crusade in the town center of Kabenes, a small village about 15 miles from the city of Eldoret. There is NO electricity or running water in this town. They believe in God, but do not have a relationship with Him through Christ. Much of their culture is steeped DSC01688in tribal tradition and bondage. We were among the Nandi tribe, which is a sub-tribe of the Kalenjin. This tribe is known for its runners. The young men, women and children were very receptive to our mission; however, many of the older men were reserved, non-engaging and somewhat stand-offish. There is a great need to reveal the nature of Christ to these men, so they can impact their community and the surrounding villages.

I have partnered with Lawrence Otieno, Pastor of Mt. Zion Gospel Tabernacle IMG00060-20091204-2043(church picture above), to assist him in fulfilling God’s purposes and advancing the Kingdom of Christ in Kabenes. I met Lawrence in 2005 during my first trip when he was in ministry training. We have stayed in touch over the years and I have witnessed him grow into an amazing servant for Christ. It’s taken him 3 years and much hardship to earn the trust of the locals and build relationships. He is beginning to see fruit of his labor from this church plant through favor with many of the local businesses and a private school, Prilimo Academy, has allowed him to put the church structure on the property and even allowed us to use the campus during our visit. His heart and passion extend beyond Kabenes and well into other nations of East Africa. Kabenes will definitely be one of my stopping points for future missions.

Finally, the main visionary for the work in East Africa is Apostle Mike Opiyo. He is the pastor of Mt. Zion Church in Kayole, a suburb of IMG00080-20091206-1149Nairobi, and a very humble man of faith. Mike and I spent much time just sharing our passion for missions and strategizing our partnership. We share the same burdens for advancing the Kingdom and bringing the body of Christ back to the true work of the gospel. In all my missions, I have encountered many who have their hand out in expectation that men from the west will fund all their projects and remove their burdens, but not Mike. Instead, he selflessly gave and expected nothing in return, except for our love, fellowship and encouragement. It is through him and his relationships with men in Tanzania and Uganda we have open doors to spread the gospel to places that still have NOT seen a white man or heard the name Jesus. I am excited to yoke up in labor with these men and hope others will support our work as well.

I have been back in the US for 2 weeks and already received many request to go back to Kenya, as well as Tanzania and Uganda. The harvest of souls is ripe, laborers are few and provision unseen. I am not sure how all of this is going to work out, or even what this ministry will look like in the coming weeks, months and years, but I trust my Lord to make a way where there seems to be none. The doors are opened wide for me to travel through them, I am looking for partners to assist us in making this happen. Please agree with me in prayer for favor, provision and timing to advance this Kingdom work in East Africa. I will continue to post updates and will be modifying this site to reflect all our mission endeavors. If you are interested in partnership, don’t hesitate to contact me.

I leave you with this thought to ponder today:

For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants [2] for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 4:5-6

T-Minus 10 Days

Category : Africa, Missions

Hello Family & Friends,

This is a quick update on Kenya. We are 10 days away from departure and I can hardly believe I am going back after 4 1/2 years. My heart for missions was placed on the back burner and now it is getting ready to kick into after burner. I am so thankful you have decided to join us in prayer and support.

I somehow misplaced my shot record over the past 6 weeks and was looking at having to take all my shots over. Thank goodness the yellow fever and typhoid vaccinations are controlled, so the clinic in Austin is reissuing my shot record for $5. That’s a lot better than $500.

We are excited about what God is going to do through us in Nairobi and Eldoret. I have attached a flyer from one of the conferences we will be speaking at. Be sure to keep us covered in prayer while we are on our journey, November 28 – December 10.

In addition to prayer support, it’s not too late to support our trip financially. We can always use the extra funds to help plant and build churches, as well as meet the needs of the people we will come in contact with. No amount is too little or small, God will use all for His glory and advance His Kingdom.

Be sure to keep an eye on this page, my personal page, main site or twitter for updates about our journey. I will attempt to post daily, but at least every couple days. This may be my last update between now and when I return, so until then be encouraged and blessed in the Lord.

Humbly,

James
